Biography
Christian Kaiser was an Engineer/Scientist at IBM's Almaden Research Center as well as a Ph.D. student at the Technical University of North-Rhine-Westfalia in Aachen, Germany. His research was aimed at understanding the mechanisms of spin-polarized transport in magnetic tunneling junctions and evaluating exotic electrode and barrier materials. He was also deeply involved in building the hardware and developing the software for the PLD-TEON advanced spintronic materials deposition system at IBM Almaden. Christian spent almost 4.5 years at IBM Almaden, leaving in July 2005 to return to Germany where he joined Elmos in December that year, to work on the development of CMOS chips. In early 2007, Christian returned to California to join Western Digital where he is developing advanced materials for magnetic hard disk drive heads.

A native of Hagen, Germany, Kaiser earned a graduate "diploma" degree in 2002 from Aachen. His thesis research at IBM Almaden, under IBM Fellow Stuart Parkin, included using superconducting tunneling spectroscopy to measure spin polarization in ferromagnetic materials.
